Etacarina
Bristol-based electronica artist Etacarina fuses infectious melody, layered vocals, polished yet innovative production, and lyrics that deal with the usual suspects of the human condition while treading the fine line between resonance and over worthiness. Not one for understatement (her first band was called Legend) the name Etacarina comes from the giant star eta carinae that is continually exploding in a rather unpredictable manner to create a huge and beautiful nebula.
Etacarina (aka Jo Priest) has been making music since childhood and her love of various genres and an ear for a wonderful, soaring melody infuses her work. She first performed live in an acoustic set in a bar in Brixton, London, followed by recordings and live appearances with a series of groups. Travels around the world followed, where she could be heard singing covers in a South Korean bar of an evening. She has since returned to her West Country roots by settling in Bristol, in part attracted by the rich music scene and creative heritage of the city. After a brief flirtation with funk rock she has also returned to the musical form she loves.
Influenced by the usual suspect of 80s synth pop, 90s house and the present and correct in the pop-dance world, Etacarina combines assured electronica with a warmth and clarity, proving that electronic music need not be cold and detached.
